The focus will be what we learned from the 2008 recession, actions we took after, and were we ready for another recession, this time caused by a virus, not an asset class. It will also focus on credit risk; are we being compensated for this risk and what competition is forcing us to do. We will also discuss the tough decisions that need to be made between retaining or losing a good customer because of competition. The discussion will also cover what reports management should be providing directors and reporting in a good economy and a recessionary economy. These should be very different so that intelligent decisions can be made.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought on a great deal of uncertainty within the banking sector.  Some topics covered in this session will include a discussion of certain actions taken by the Federal Reserve to support the economy and banking industry.  In addition, we’ll discuss risks regulators are observing in the banking industry and what risk management strategies might bankers consider.  Lastly, while banks have likely weathered much of the pandemic storm uncertainties remain, so what are the indicators to be watching during these challenging times and what may be driving the future of the financial landscape.
